Homebuyer Education (HBE)

It sounds like the the Homebuyer Education (HBE) program is the best fit for you.  HBE is designed for potential homebuyers with a plan to own a home within the next 12 months or who are already under contract to purchase a home within the Greensboro and High Point areas. Our HBE program is HUD-certified. Class attendees may be eligible to apply for local Downpayment Assistance programs after completing this 8-hour virtual class and receive a program completion certificate valid for one year for participating in down payment assistance programs nationally.

Classes are offered two Saturdays each month on a virtual platform. Each class lasts 8 hours. Registration is required. Additionally, class attendance is required for the complete 8 hours. Please click here for our 2025 January- June class schedule.

The Homebuyer Education Program is:

• Ideally Suited for those Prequalified by a Lender to Buy a Home within 6 to 12 Months including those Under Contract to Purchase a Home in Greensboro or High Point
• Mandatory to Apply for Local Downpayment Assistance Programs After Completing the HBE program.
• Requires a Minimum FICO Credit Score of 600 to Register.

Attendees will:

• Better understand overall the homebuying process, basic mortgage loan approval requirements, and supportive resources available, including local Homebuyer downpayment assistance programs.
• Become familiar with the benefit of services offered by local real estate-related professionals.
• Receive a “Certificate of Completion” valid for one year for any downpayment assistance program available nationally, requiring HUD-certified Homebuyer education.

Costs: This class is available at no charge for homebuyers under contract to purchase a home in the City of Greensboro and City of High Point and for current Greensboro and High Point residents.

Length of Course: 8-Hour live virtual sessions offered 2 Saturdays a month.
