Housing Consultants Group (HCG), in partnership with the Greensboro Regional REALTORS® Association (GGRA) and the Women’sCouncil of REALTORS® NC Piedmont, recently hosted a First-Time Homebuyer Event designed to help individuals and families take confident steps toward homeownership.
The event brought together aspiring homebuyers, real estate professionals, and community partners for a day focused on education, connection, and access to resources. Attendees participated in interactive information sessions covering the full homebuying process—from understanding credit and financing to exploring down payment assistance programs and preparing for closing costs.
With homeownership becoming increasingly out of reach for many, events like this play a critical role in bridging the gap between where buyers are and where they want to be.

Meeting Today’s Homebuying Challenges Head-On
A November 2025 article published by the National Association of Realtors® shows first-time buyers dropping to 21%—a record low—while the average age of first-time homebuyers has risen to 40, highlighting the growing affordability challenges in today’s market.
Locally, Greensboro leaders and housing organizations are responding with coordinated efforts focused on both education and housing supply. Initiatives such as the city’s “Road to 10,000”—which aims to create 10,000 new housing units by 2030—work alongside community-based education programs to improve access and affordability.
As one housing leader shared during the event, homeownership is “a crockpot, not a microwave-type process.” The message resonated with attendees: success requires preparation, patience, and a clear understanding of the financial steps involved.
Education, Connection, and Resources—All in One Place
The First-Time Homebuyer Event was built around three core pillars:
Learn:
Participants received step-by-step guidance on buying their first home, including credit readiness, mortgage options, and budgeting strategies. Special emphasis was placed on often-overlooked factors such as closing costs and long-term affordability.
Connect:
Attendees were able to engage directly with REALTORS®, lenders, and housing professionals—creating space for meaningful conversations and personalized guidance.
Resources:
Information was shared on programs designed to make homeownership more attainable, including down payment assistance and community-based support services.
Family-friendly activities and giveaways helped create a welcoming environment, reinforcing the idea that homebuying is not just a transaction—it’s a milestone worth celebrating.

A Shared Commitment to Expanding Access

The collaboration between HCG, GGRA, and the Women’s Council of REALTORS® NC Piedmont reflects a shared commitment to increasing access to sustainable homeownership.
By pairing, financial education and homebuyer readiness education with HUD-certified housing counseling and the expertise of real estate professionals, the partnership helps ensure that first-time buyers are not only informed but also supported throughout their journey. This alignment strengthens consumer protection, promotes fair housing principles, and encourages long-term financial stability.
Looking Ahead
While the challenges in today’s housing market are real, so is the momentum behind solutions. Through education, outreach, and partnerships like this one, HCG remains focused on helping individuals and families build a solid foundation for homeownership—and ultimately, generational wealth.
We extend our sincere thanks to the Greensboro Regional REALTORS® Association and the Women’s Council of REALTORS® NC Piedmont for their collaboration and support in making this event a success.
